Our day tour starts with pick up our clients from their hotel and drive through to Gobeklitepe. Known for its impressive megalithic architecture with characteristics such as T-shaped pillars, Göbeklitepe is one of the most mesmerizing and oldest archaeological finds in the world. The outstanding 12,000-year-old Göbeklitepe complex, located 15 kilometers (9.32 miles) from Turkey’s southeastern city of Şanlıurfa, is the oldest temple site in human history and one of the most important discoveries of Neolithic research.

Stop At: Sanliurfa Archeology and Mosaic Museum, Camlik Caddesi, Sanliurfa 63200 Turkey

Our tour continues with Sanliurfa Archeology and Mosaic Museum.The Sanliurfa Archaeology and Mosaic Museum is a great place to experience the history of this biblical land. Located close to the sacred pool, following its rebuild in 2015 it became one of the largest museums in Turkey. The museum offers recreation beside explore the 34,000 square metre interior with restaurant, library, market, and even a playground for children.

The displays are split into two sections, Mosaic and Archaeology. The Mosaic section was created after the eventual hand over of the Orpheus from Dallas Museum. This classic style mosaic was created in 184 AD.

Stop At: Gumruk Han, Urfa Bazaar, Sanliurfa Turkey

Our next stop is Gumruk Han. uilt in 1566, it was the main commercial centre. Tradesman met there to trade goods and if they were tired from traveling, used the bedrooms before continuing on their journey. Due to its importance as a business hub, many bazaars, and markets in old Sanliurfa established themselves around the building. The most famous person to cross its threshold was the Ottoman traveller Evliya Çelebi, who lived from 1611 to 1682.

After Gumrukhan, we’ll pay a visit to one of the most important places in Urfa; Balikligol. This pool is believed by Muslims to be the place where Abraham was thrown into the fire by Nimrod. Abraham is mentioned in three major religions, Christianity, Islam and Judaism but in Islam, he is called Ibrahim.

The pool is a special place for practicing Muslims because of the importance of Ibrahim. He was the same prophet who was prepared to sacrifice his son for Allah.

The story says that when Ibrahim landed in the fire, Allah turned the flames to water and the burning logs into fish, hence the translation of the Turkish name into “lake of fish”. Since Abraham / Ibrahim is also a prominent figure of Christianity, the pool is on the agenda of most Christian tours throughout Turkey.

Our last stop before we drive back our guests to their hotel is Aynzeliha Lake. According to legend She was the daughter of Nimrod who was hell bent on throwing Abraham into the fire. After seeing Abraham go into the flames, she was so distraught but what happens next depends on which story you are listening t.

The first says the lake is the tears of Ayn-I Zeliha who cried non-stopped after the death of Abraham The second version says that Ayn-I jumped into the flames after him and just as God turned the fire into water to save Abraham, he did the same for her.
