Hierapolis
The ancient city of Hierapolis is believed to have been founded by Eumenies II, the King of Pergamum, in the 2nd century BC, and to have been named after Hiera, the beautiful wife of Telephos, the legendary founder of Pergamon.The name Hierapolis also means the sacred city.
Ancient Theatre
The ancient theatre of Hierapolis was replaced with the old theatre in the northern part of the city and was built by using architectural pieces from the old theatre. It has a capacity of 10.000 people and is nearly 1800 years old. The theatre is the only example of Roman theatres in the Mediterranean which was preserved with all its architectural materials.
