Stop At: Sultanahmet District, Istanbul 34122 Turkey

On this guided tour you will see some of Istanbul’s Ottoman and Byzantine relics beginning with the resting place of 5 of the Ottoman Sultans, then the splendid Hagia Sophia and finally the world’s largest covered market, the Grand Bazaar.

The Ottoman dynasty is world-famous and the tombs of 5 of their sultans as well as 142 members of the family are laid in a building nextdoor to the Hagia Sophia museum. Their resting place is very elegant with beautiful tile work and calligraphy while the tombs are covered in green shrouds.

The Church of Holy Wisdom or Hagia Sophia was constructed in the 6th century AD on the orders of Emperor Justinian and was out-standing in size and structure particularly with its’ massive dome. After the conquest of Constantinople in the 15th century, the church became an Ottoman Imperial mosque for many more hundreds of years until it was finally made a museum in the 20th century. This building is probably the most iconic of all in Istanbul.

The afternoon is completed with a visit to the oldest and biggest covered market in the world – the Grand Bazaar. With more than 4,000 shops and 65 streets containing all kinds of goods, in particular jewellery shops, leatherware, carpets and many other traditional artefacts, the place is mesmerising and a must-see during any trip to the city. Free time will be given to roam the labyrinth of streets before you are dropped off at your hotel afterwards.
