Stop At: Myndos Gate, Buyuk Iskender Cad., Bodrum City 48400 Turkey
It is impressive how they could even build such a thing so long ago, A little imagination is required of this 400BC archaeological site of the southern city gate in the walls of ancient Halicarnassus. Some history boards give a flavor of its importance to antiquity. There is not much left of it, but it is history, use your imagination and think about what king Mausolus and queen Artemis did for their ppl……take your time, seat and watch it.
Duration: 30 minutes
Stop At: Mausoleum of Halicarnassus, Tepecik, Bodrum City Turkey
The Mausoleum is one of the seven wonders of the ancient world. King Mausolus reigned around 376 BC and the colossal tomb before his death. It was destroyed by an earthquake around 1494, nearly all of the materials were used to build Bodrum Castle.
Now, all that you can see are some columns, the stairway and some chambers, some remnants of statues and wall plaques. Some of the original statues are in the British Museum. There is a mock-up showing you what it did look like, and a short video to watch.
A beautiful place is full of history and remains of the past. You will have to use your imagination since there is not much left of the original structure. Make sure to visit if you are in Bodrum!
