Day 2: Istanbul in One Day Tour

Stop At: Hagia Sophia Mosque, Sultan Ahmet, Ayasofya MeydanI No:1, Istanbul 34122 Turkey
The ancient Byzantine church, Hagia Sophia was built by Justinian I. And later it converted to a mosque by the order of Fatih Sultan Mehmet. And after the declaration of the Republic, was converted to a museum. Today, you can see both Christian and Islamic art in here.

The Grand Bazaar Istanbul is one of the largest and oldest covered markets in the world, with 61 covered streets and over 4,000 shops.

Starting as a small vaulted bedesten(warehouse) built by order of Mehmet the Conqueror in 1461, it grew to cover a vast area as lanes between the bedesten, neighbouring shops and hans (caravanserais) were roofed and the market assumed the sprawling, labyrinthine form that it retains today.

The ancient town of Avanos, which was called Venessa in the olden times. It overlooks the longest river in Turkey, the Kızılırmak (Red River), which separates Avanos from the rest of Cappadocia. The most famous historical feature of Avanos, which is still relevant and prominent today, is its production of earthenware products. The ceramic trade in this district and its countless pottery factories date back to the Hittites. The ceramic clay from the red silt of the Kızılırmak has always been used. You can watch the potters at work using the kick wheel, a technique that hasn’t changed over generations. Later you can also try making your own pottery.

Devrent valley has many different red-coloured rock formations, forming a lunar landscape with their strange appearance. The valley has many animal-shaped rocks. Some of the most commonly seen shapes include a camel, snake, seals, and a dolphin. If you use your imagination, you can find many others. There is even a rock pillar which looks like Virgin Mary holding baby Jesus.
