The Tomb of Rumi and Museum
For Muslims and non-Muslims alike, the main reason to come to Konya is to visit the Mevlâna Museum, the former lodge of the whirling dervishes and home to the tomb of Mevlana Celaleddin Rumi who lived in 13th century. This is the biggest Sufi centre in Turkey, and the building’s fluted dome of turquoise tiles is one of Turkey’s most distinctive sights.
Shams-i Tabrizi was the spiritual guide, inspiration and companion of Mevlâna Celaleddin Rumî. The tomb of Shams-i Tabrizi is one of the most important place to visit.
This is the mosque where Mevlana Celaleddin-i Rumi and some other important Sufies like Muhiddin-i Ibni Arabi usually prayed.
The Alaeddin Mosque is one of the oldest mosque in Turkey , constructed by the Seljuk Sultans of Rum between 1116-1220. Alaeddin Mosque has some interesting architectural features ,such as columns of different sizes and from earlier periods. Seljuk Palace was built during the reign of Sultan Kılıçarslan II (1156-1192)
Sadreddun Konevi who lived in 13th century was a great scholar and a respected and well-known person for the Anatolian Seljuks. He was stepson of Muhyiddin-i Arabi. There was a close friendship with Mevlana and Mevlana requested that his funeral prayer would be given by Sadreddin-i Konevi.
In Meram district of Konya you will see a historical bridge ,a Seljuk period mosque and near the mosque there is the tomb of Tavusbaba.
The sufi (tavusbaba) who was a fan of Mevlana celaleddin-i Rumi came from India in order to see him in Konya. He was busy with music, especilally playing the ney instrument (reed flute) very well. It is also noted that Rumi and his followers often came to him to listen and feel the Divine love.
The tomb of Atesbaz-ı Veli
Ateşbaz-ı Veli was the cook of Mevlana celaleddin-i Rumi. He represents one of the most important authorities of the Mevlevi order.
