The construction of the approach viaducts (passing over Ortaköy and Beylerbeyi) was completed in May 1973. The first vehicle crossing test was carried out on June 8, 1973. It was opened to service by the then President Fahri Korutürk on October 30, 1973, on the 50th anniversary of the proclamation of the Republic.

Dolmabahçe Palace was built by the thirty-first Ottoman Sultan, Sultan Abdülmecid. Designed with a Western approach in line with the Ottoman modernization goal, Dolmabahçe Palace was opened for use on June 7, 1856. Construction of this magnificent palace began on June 13, 1843 and took 13 years.

Having married the Sultan’s daughter Fatma Sultan, Ibrahim Pasha had the first structure named “Çırağan” built for his beloved wife, the “Çırağan Mansion”. The most famous structure on the Bosphorus in the 18th century, the Çırağan Mansion was one of the most frequented places by the seven sultans who ascended to the throne in that century.

Maiden’s Tower. In the 5th century BC, a customs point was established on the islet where the tower is located today and a tower was built to inspect ships coming from the Black Sea and collect taxes. In the 12th century, a defensive tower was built on the islet by the Eastern Roman Emperor Manuel I Komnenos.

Beylerbeyi Palace was designed as a summer residence for Ottoman sultans and a state guest house where foreign heads of state or rulers could be hosted, and was built upon the request of the sultan of the period, Sultan Abdülaziz (1861-1876).

RUMELI HİSARI. The construction of the fortress, which was started in March 1452 by Fatih Sultan Mehmet in order to control the ships passing through the Bosphorus, was completed in August of the same year. It is stated in the sources that 300 masters, 700-800 workers, 200 coachmen, boatmen and transporters worked in its construction.

Anadolu Hisarı is located at the narrowest part of the Bosphorus and is just across from Rumeli Hisarı. It was built by Yıldırım Bayezid in 1395. This special historical structure was built as a precaution against attacks that could threaten Anatolia and come from the Bosphorus.

The foundation of the bridge was laid on May 29, 1985 and construction began on December 4, 1985. This major project, which currently ranks 14th among the world’s largest steel suspension bridges, was opened on July 3, 1988 by the then Prime Minister Turgut Özal.

The mosque was built by the Armenian architect Nigoğos Balyan in 1853 by Sultan Abdülmecid. As in all imperial mosques, it consists of two sections: the harim and the sultan’s section. The wide and high windows are designed to carry the changing lights of the Bosphorus into the mosque.
