What makes Private Guided Golden Cappadocia Tour a unique experience ?

Cappadocia’s main attraction and the customary starting point for an overview of what the region has to offer, Goreme Open air Museum is a monastic complex composed of churches, refectories, and dwellings, and one of the earliest centers for religious education. There are at least 50 churches and chapels in the museum area dating between A.D. 900 and 1200, each one named (after a prominent attribute) by the local villagers who were exploring these caves long before there was an entrance fee.

Karanlık Kilise (or the Dark Church) was part of an 11th century monastic compound, and is one of a dozen historic churches in the Goreme Open-Air Museum. It’s name comes from its dark interior, lit only by a small window in the narthex. The dim interior has preserved the rich pigments and vivid decorations of its murals such as Christ Pantocrator, Nativity, Adoration of the Magi, First Bath, Last Supper, Betrayal by Judas, Crucifixion, and Resurrection.

Avanos is a town and district that is noted for its Turkish craft skills. Rug-weaving and pottery-making are important local skills. Cappadocian women have been giving life to loops, unravelling silk cocoons, dyeing the wool using natural plants for generations and men still kicking the ancient Hittite kick-wheel to shape the red clay which is obtained from the old banks of the longest river in Turkey, the Red River. Lunch is served in Avanos at a local family’s old house that has been converted into a restaurant.

Ozkonak Underground City is located northeast of Avanos and is definitely worth a visit for those who want to explore underground cities in depth. The city was discovered in 1972 and it differs from other in that, there were holes in ceilings above the doors which enabled the citizens to pour hot oil on any unwelcome visitors and spear the invaders through the hidden holes inside the narrow tunnels . Please inform your guide before the underground city visit if you have the following conditions: Claustrophobia, sthma or heart diseases.

The name of the valley means: the Pacha’s vineyard. Pasa means a military rank (General) and bag means ‘vineyard’. Also known as Monks’ Valley as a chapel dedicated to St. Simeon and a hermit’s shelter is built into a fairy chimney with multiple heads. Pasabag Valley contains some of the most interesting fairy chimneys in Cappadocia with twin and triple rock caps.

It may look like a practical joke, but these suggestive columns are, in fact, natural rock formations in Cappadocia. Locals have proudly dubbed the area “Love Valley”. There are dozens of these phallic-shaped rocks, created over millions of years by wind erosion. Some have even been hewn out to create homes. Love Valley is just one of the many treats in store in Cappadocia, a fascinating corner of it.
